Summary of Salvation History

Beijing, Summer of 1879

Translated into colloquial Mandarin Chinese, and has different content compared with the 1860 edition. This edition does not identify any author or translator. Unlike other translated works of the Russian Mission published during this period under the leadership of Archim. Flavian, the proper names used throughout this work still retained the more complicated, specially created hanzi for Slavonic transliteration that were first introduced by Archim. Gury (Karpov).

This 1879 edition of Summary of Salvation History is stored at the St Petersburg Theological Academy Library. The scanned images are provided by Nikolai Du Haixu, grandson of the late Fr Pinna Du.

A handmaiden of God in Hong Kong have already transcribed the images into electronic text which allows it to be searchable. It is currently being revised to use the RussianMission font which can be downloaded and installed for proper display. These hanzi are currently being submitted as part of a Proposal to Encode Chinese Characters used to Transliterate Slavonic by the Ponomar Project to the IRG for inclusion in Unicode.
