Orthodox Churches of Xinjiang-Uighur Autonomous Region

All Orthodox Churches in Xinjiang were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. The number of Russians currently living in Xinjiang seems to be no less than 7000, and most of them are of mixed descent. The whole of Taicheng City alone has 2700 Russians. The local government authorities have rebuilt two churches, one in Ghulja in 2000 and another in Urumqi around 1986. The two churches are both dedicated to St Nicholas the Wonderworker. Unfortunately there are no local priest serving the community.
