Ecclesiastical awards presented to clerics of the Chinese Autonomous Orthodox Church

On March 9, 2008, during Cheesefare Week, priest Alexy Kiselevich of the Russian Orthodox Church conducted divine services on the premises of the Consulate-General of the Russian Federation in Shanghai. About 40 people were in attendance. Priest Mikhail Wang and Protodeacon Evangel Lu, senior clerics of the Chinese Autonomous Orthodox Church prayed at the Divine Liturgy and received the Sacred Holy Mysteries. At the close of worship, they were presented with awards of the Russian Orthodox Church, medals of the Venerable Sergius of Radonezh (I degree), given by His Holiness Patriarch Alexy of Moscow and All Russia in connection with the 50th anniversary since the granting of autonomy to the Chinese Orthodox Church. Earlier, the same award was presented to Reader Papiy Fu.

Tea and pancakes were served in a warm, friendly atmosphere. After the meal Orthodox Community of Shanghai, together with the Chinese priests visited the building of the former Cathedral in Shanghai in honor of the "Surety of Sinners"[1] Icon of the Theokotos, where the clerics of the Chinese Autonomous Orthodox Church spoke of their ministry.


[1] The name of this icon is from the Russian "Sporuchnitsa" which is untranslatable but can also be rendered as "Intercessions of Sinners".
