St Jonah (Pokrovsky) of Hankou and Manzhouli

St Jonah was officially the bishop of Hankou, but was appointed during the fall of 1922 to the border town of Manzhouli where he served unceasingly for three years for all citizens in Manzhouli whether they be the local populace or the Russian refugees, whether poor or orphaned children, even until the last day of his unexpected death in 1925.

The ROCOR Council of Archbishops has decreed on Sept 13, 1996, Vladika Jonah as God-pleaser among the Saints and to prepare for the glorification on the anniversary of his repose on October 20, 1996.

The Moscow Patriarchate in its Episcopal Council of February 2-3, 2016, after reviewing the decision related to the glorification of the saints by the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, have blessed the church-wide venderation of St Jonah of Hankou designating October 7/20 as the feast day.
