Bible Tips 39-48

39. When two nouns are coupled by a conjunction, the second is frequently equal to an adjective.
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Luke 21:15
For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

John 3:5; 14:6
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God....Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

40. The names "Christ" or "Jesus" are frequently used to denote the doctrine, subject, or spirit of His religion.

And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ....Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them...Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

Romans 3:26; 8:10

41. The verb "to have" is frequently used for "to hold fast, to use."

For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.

42. The name of a person is himself or his character.
Psalm 5:11; 75:1
But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee....Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare.

Matthew 10:22; 12:21
And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved....And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.

John 1:12; 12:28; 17:6
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name....Father, glorify thy name. 43. To be "in Christ" is frequently simply to be a Christian.

But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

45. The cause or source is frequently used for the effects. (E.g., "the Spirit" for His operations.)
Matthew 1:18,20
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost....But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

Mark 1:8
I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

Luke 1:35; 4:1
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God....And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.

46. Abstract words are sometimes used for Concrete ones, and Concrete words for Abstract ones.
Genesis 15:1

Awake, awake, Deborah: awake, awake, utter a song: arise, Barak, and lead thy captivity captive, thou son of Abinoam.
