DECR representatives held meetings in Beijing

On November 14, 2007, the Secretary for Inter-Orthodox affairs of the Department of External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Archpriest Nikolai Balashov, and a DECR official, D.I. At a meeting in Beijing organizational committee for the 2008 Olympic Games, the Head of International Department, Zhao Huimin. Issues related to the spiritual support of Orthodox athletes and holding prayer services during the Olympic Games were discussed in a constructive spirit.. Representatives of the Olympic village leadership in Beijing, the PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Beijing Administration of Religious Affairs also took part in the discussion.

At a meeting in the Beijing Christian Council , Pastor Li Jianan, Vice-President of this organization, acquainted the representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church with the current situation of the Protestant communities in China.

DECR representatives also met with the Vice President of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association, Liu Bainian. During a lengthy interview, which took place in an atmosphere of mutual understanding, plans for the development of relations between the peoples of Russia and China with regard to the role of religious communities in the two countries were discussed . A question was also raised on the current situation of the Chinese Orthodox Church.
