On 2 June 1990, at the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, a meeTing of the delegation from the Centre for the Study of Christianity at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences led by it Director Zhuo Xinping and the DECR MP Chairman Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad.
During the lively and constructive talk the participants discussed some major questions of the relationship between the Church and modern society. Mr.Zhuo Xinping noted the important role which the Russian Orthodox Church has played in the history and of Russian. Also discussed was the present situation of the Chinese Autonomous Orthodox Church.
As to the relations between East and West in the modern world, the participants noted the similarity of their positions on peaceful settlement of the conflict in Yugoslavia. Their special concern is the problem of spreading of the destructive pseudo-religious trends and sects.
The delegation from the Centre for the Study of Christianity at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences will stay in Russia till June 8 and visit the Publishing Council of the Moscow Patriarchate, the Department for Religious Education and Catechisation, St.Irenaeus of Lyons' Centre, the Laura of the Holy Trinity and St.Sergius and the holy places of St.Petersburg.
