The convent was designed by Georgi Borisovich Imshenetsky and built in honor of the Tabynsk icon of Mother of God in 1934 on top of the hill opposite Xiajiahezi (Hsia-chia-ho-tzu) Railway Station, Ganjingzi District, Dalian, Liaoning Province. During the Japanese occupation, the area was known as Kakakashi, Dairen, Kwantung Leased Territory. At the Monastery a copy of the Tabynsk icon was kept.
In 1937, Fr. Rostislav Gan served as rector. In 1940, the rector was Fr Innokenty Stepanovich Petelin and followed by Archpriest Ioann Petelin from Harbin.
The nun of the Tabyn-Kazan women's monastery in Kakagashi, headed by Abbess Angelina. In the beginning of the 1960's the female monastery was closed and the nuns moved to California.
