This Mandarin Chinese catechism was published as part of a beginner's compilation to Orthodoxy by Fr Nikolai Li. A copy of which is located in the library of the Institute of World Religions at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing, which have been reprinted on pages 25-557 ff in volume 25 of their hardcover Dong chuan fu yin on October 2005 (ISBN 7-80707-295-4).
The content of this catechism was excerpted from the 1810 edition of Fr Iakinf (Bichurin)'s Conversation of the Angels, with the divine name Tianzhu replaced by Shangdi along with other minor edits.
This Shanghai catechism was subsequently reprinted in 1948 as part of a prayer book with blessing of St John of Shanghai.
